Zombies, Run!

In my fitness and diet endeavours I was introduced to this absolutely brilliant app. It's available on the Apple Store, Android Marketplace and Windows Phone and it's called 'Zombies, Run!'.

They say:
"You tie your shoes, put on your headphones, take your first steps outside. You've barely covered 100 yards when you hear them. They must be close. You can hear every guttural breath, every rattling groan - they're everywhere. Zombies. There's only one thing you can do: Run!"
I say:
Nothing has made me want to run like this app does!

Simply put, I don't exercise half as much as I should at all. On the other hand, put a game in front of me and I'll play it obsessively! The best part about this is that you have to go for your run in order to gain supplies and build the town up to fight against the zombies.

How does it work?
So there are 23 'Story Missions' and an unknown number of 'Supply Missions' that you can do in between to build the town's supplies...obviously.
You can choose if you want the mission to last for 30 minutes or 1 hour, and your own playlist is played in between the story.
If you're richer than me and have an iPhone or other smart phone with GPS as opposed to my iPod touch, the game will track your progress via GPS which is pretty cool. However as it is, the game uses the iPod's accelerometer to track how I'm doing which also does a good job so no need to worry about that.
What's the story about?
Well other than zombies? The app website explains it better than I can:
"You're Runner 5. Hundreds of lives are counting on you. You've got to help your base rebuild from the ruins of civilization by collecting critical supplies while avoiding roving zombie hordes. Can you save them and learn the truth about the zombie apocalypse?"
The Best Bits?
The voice acting is fantastic, it really makes you feel as though you're a part of the action. The acting is on a level with animated games so you get the thorough game experience even without the visuals, but seriously, play this on a dark night.

There's no need to look at or touch your iPod while running since the game plays through automatically whether you're being directed to places to find things, or collecting supplies it all happens without you needing to do anything other than running.

Zombie chases, when you activate the zombie chases you'll get chased by mobs of zombies through the mission and you'll have to speed up for a minute or so to escape or you'll loose supplies when you drop them to distract the zombies.

The story makes you want to go for another run to find out what happens next, can you honestly tell me a running regime that makes you want to go again?

[Also, apparently they're going to make it compatible with 'Runkeeper' for any of you who actually know what that is...]
How much does it cost?
Only £5.49, which when you think about it is really good for a game that's going to last ages and help you lose weight or get fitter.
Those of you dieting will understand that you get to the point where you'll try anything right?
Where can I get it?

On a final note, nothing makes you want to run than the sound of zombies breathing down your neck.
This adrenaline fuelled running game makes me look forward to going for a run... That's not something that can be done easily!
